Missing memo or destination tag after a crypto transfer
First identify whether the missing memo or tag affects your deposit into the exchange or the payout to your destination. Then inspect the actual transaction result. If a payment succeeded without the required account identifier, the service receiving that payment needs the evidence to investigate crediting.

Identify what actually happened
An address can belong to a shared custodial wallet while a memo or tag identifies the intended account. Missing or incorrect identifiers can prevent account crediting. XRP also has a distinct failure case: an address that enforces destination tags can reject an untagged payment with tecDST_TAG_NEEDED. A validated failure is not a successful deposit waiting to be assigned.

- 03Compare the memo or tag in the transaction or wallet record with the receiver's deposit instructions, using the evidence appropriate to that network. Monero payment details are not publicly readable in the same way. Distinguish an absent value from an incorrect value; save both the actual and intended details.
- 04If the correct address received a successful payment, open a case with the receiving service through its official process. For an Orbiswap exchange deposit, start with the existing order's support; for a custodial payout, contact the destination service.
- 05Provide the evidence requested for that case and keep any ticket reference. A memo cannot be added to a settled transaction, and a support investigation does not guarantee recovery or a completion time.

The recipient account requires a destination tag and the payment omitted it. Check that this is the final validated result. The intended payment did not succeed, although an included failed transaction can still consume its network fee.
Should I enter an XRP-style numeric tag for every memo?
No. Memo formats and requirements depend on the asset and receiving service. Copy the exact value and format supplied for that deposit; a tag from one asset or account is not a substitute for another.
