Sent crypto on the wrong network? Stop before sending again

SHORT ANSWER

If crypto was sent on the wrong network, do not send another transaction. Save the order ID and transaction hash, then identify the blockchain that actually confirmed the transfer. Recovery depends on who controls the destination keys and whether that service supports the asset on that network; it is never guaranteed.

Identify the transfer that actually confirmed

Use the source wallet’s transaction details to record the hash, network and token contract. A ticker alone is insufficient because USDT and other assets exist on several blockchains.

Determine who controls the destination keys

If you control the wallet keys on a compatible EVM network, adding the correct network and verified token contract can reveal the balance. If an exchange or service controls the address, only that operator can assess recovery.

Ask the correct service with complete public evidence

Provide the order ID, transaction hash, actual network, intended network, token contract, amount and destination address. Never provide a seed phrase, private key or private tracking token in a public message.

CONCRETE EXAMPLE

Example: USDT sent on BNB Smart Chain instead of Ethereum

A sender intends to deposit USDT ERC-20 but broadcasts USDT BEP-20 to the same-looking 0x address. The transaction can succeed on BNB Smart Chain while the order watches Ethereum. The useful evidence is the BNB Smart Chain hash, token contract, destination address, amount and order ID. The identical address format does not complete the order or guarantee recovery.
